About Jared Lang
Jared Lang is a musician, music teacher, composer, and producer, currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
His bachelors degree (BTech Mus from TUT) focused mainly on jazz and contemporary piano as well as music production, and his masters degree (MMus from Rhodes University) on composition.

Jared recently returned to South Africa after spending 6 years teaching music at private international schools in China
This included teaching class music and one-on-one instruction on the student's chosen instrument to prepare students for international exams (Cambridge IGCSE and A levels), as well as designing more modern curricula for high school music classes for students with no prior musical knowledge, based on the interests of the students in those classes.
Before moving to China, Jared taught music privately for more than 20 years to many students of all ages and levels, including teaching piano at two of Joburg's most prestigious private schools: King David High School (to students taking Music as an elective subject for matric), and Crawford International Ruimsig (as an extracurricular activity),
As part of the Keiskammahoek music outreach project, Jared also taught recorder, and all his pupils attained distinctions for their UNISA recorder exams (Grades 1 to 3).
In addition to piano and recorder, he also teaches bass, music theory, and music production.
Jared taught all jazz ensembles and was an examiner for jazz solo and ensemble exams at Rhodes University Department of Music and Musicology in 2011 (and continued to examine until 2015).
He lectured 8 subjects at TUT Department of Jazz and Popular Music (Advanced Harmony III, Film Music IV, Small Group Arranging IV, Big Band Arranging IV, Music Technology I and II, Songwriting III and Jingle Writing III) in 2016. He was also the external examiner for the honours module of Music Technology at the University of Pretoria.

Performer
As a performer, Jared has played many live gigs and recording sessions in many styles including jazz, classical, latin, funk, rock, pop, metal and many more, either on solo piano or keyboards, as a duo (accompanying a vocalist or instrumentalist), trio, quartet, quintet or sextet.
While in Beijing, he performed a combination of his original compositions and jazz standards in The Jared Lang Band, with Tea Lončar (vocals), Dean Mongerio (sax), Connor Chappelle (bass), and Guy Mabanza (drums).
Previous bands (in addition to solo work) include: Interstellar, PoetryxMusic (Beijing, China), Mobius Loop Band (now known as Eco Groove), Breakfast on the Run (Pretoria, South Africa), Emalahleni Jazz Band, Highly Unlikely (with whom he performed at Woodstock 4), Psalm 87 (Grahamstown, South Africa), Sabine, Mish-L (with whom he performed at Klein Karoo Kunstefees), Sunmilk, The Lizzie Hibbert Band (London, UK), and Caffeine (Boston, USA).
He also completed a 7-month residency performing rock, pop, reggae and R&B covers with the bands Ruby Bamboo and The Mix at a 5-star hotel in the UAE.
Jared has played at many weddings and private events, as well as corporate functions such as Night of the Stars 2018 at Sandton City, the Rhodes University Golden Key function, Grahamstown City Hall Concert (part of the National Arts Festival), Morning Live (SABC 2), numerous public sector functions in Emalahleni, Nedbank team building functions, the Essential Hardware and Tool Trade Show at Nasrec, Starbucks Launch of Festive Drinks at Mall of Africa, and many others.

Jared also studied commercial and contemporary music, and has worked professionally as a composer, arranger and producer; composing, arranging and producing music for film, installations, educational videos and corporate advertising, as well as backtracks and remixes.
